After it’s been rumored for quite a while, Nintendo has announced the successor for the Nintendo Switch – Nintendo Switch 2
Like the Wii U (but probably much better), Nintendo’s next console is a re-design and upgraded version of the orginial Switch, although, unilke the New 3DS, it’s a brand new system, with backwards compatibility confirmed for the original switch games, and further confirmed in the reveal trailer by Nintendo, however, some games “may not be supported or fully compatible” with further details yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.
The reveal trailer further confirms that in handheld mode, it features a USB-C port at its bottom like the original Switch, a power button, volume buttons, headphones jack on top, a new yet another USB-C port to be introduced as well to it’s top and the familiar cartridge slot next to it.
Those in addition to having a bigger screen in comparison to its predecessor, and assumingly a microSD slot as well for additional storage.
The biggest change might be noticed in the new Joy-Cons, while the console is rumored to be at least wirelessly compatible with the original Switch’s, it’s obvious they won’t be able to be directly connected in handheld mode, as they now feature a magnetic connector (with a port horrifyingly seemingly featuring pins in it’s design, oh, the horrors of malfunctions and drifts comes to mind), however, the “slide” connection is now obsolete.
Another small detail is the right Joy-Con now having a square button under the home button, possibly another screenshot button?

No games were announced so far, however, an highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for the 2nd of April, 2025, just under 3 weeks from the time of the writing of this article.
The reveal trailer did give us a sneak peak at possibly the next Mario Kart game that would be released for the console, probably being currently the only confirmed game for the Nintendo Switch 2

I definitely give the console a “take my money NOW” rating 🙂 what do you guys think?
Signing off, CMD
